An AH-1Z Viper with Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron (VMX) 1 fire missiles at simulated targets at Camp Roy W. Burt, California, Jan. 29, 2021, in support of exercise Winter Fury 21. Winter Fury highlights 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing’s (MAW) ability to fight a near-peer adversary by employing all of the aircraft in its inventory, including F-35B Lightning II, AH-1Z Viper, UH-1Y Venom, F/A-18 Hornet, CH-53E Super Stallion, MV-22B Osprey, and KC-130J Super Hercules. During Winter Fury, 3rd MAW will conduct long-strikes, deploy and support infantry Marines, assist in the transport of artillery assets, and provide logistical support to Marines on the ground.
