201227-M-QM580-1139 INDIAN OCEAN (Dec. 27, 2020) – U.S. Marines with the All-Domain Reconnaissance Detachment, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, observe a surface contact from an 11-meter naval special warfare rigid-hull inflatable boat during maritime reconnaissance and surveillance off the coast of Kismayo, Somalia. The 15th MEU, part of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, conducts operations under Joint Task Force – Quartz in support of Operation Octave Quartz. The mission of OOQ is to relocate U.S. Department of Defense forces in Somalia to other East Africa operating locations while maintaining pressure on violent extremists and supporting partner forces.
