201227-M-QM580-1211 INDIAN OCEAN (Dec. 27, 2020) – U.S. Marines with the All-Domain Reconnaissance Detachment, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, maneuver an 11-meter naval special warfare rigid-hull inflatable boat toward the amphibious transport dock ship USS Somerset (LPD 25) after conducting maritime reconnaissance and surveillance off the coast of Kismayo, Somalia. Somerset, part of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, and the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit conduct operations under Joint Task Force – Quartz in support of Operation Octave Quartz. The mission of OOQ is to relocate U.S. DOD forces in Somalia to other East Africa operating locations while maintaining pressure on violent extremists and supporting partner forces.
