The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center has announced a three-year research collaboration with the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) to create oyster reef habitat in the northern Gulf of Mexico. The purpose of the collaboration is to maximize Gulf oyster habitat restoration.The team is currently evaluating potential sites; the area indicated in the image was used to provide a frame of reference for the size and layout of the oyster beds.
