The Marine Corps saying, "once a Marine, always a Marine," was truly embodied as 49-year old Spc. Randy Faulkerson, a former Marine, cut the first slice of the Marine Corps birthday cake. It is within tradition to have the eldest Marine in attendance slice the cake and take the first bite before passing it onto the most junior Marine. The passing of the cake between the eldest and youngest Marine symbolizes the passing of the knowledge and tradition of the Marine Corps.
