U.S. Air Force Col. Travolis Simmons, 3rd Wing commander, and U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Rebecca Bateman, 3rd Wing command chief, receive their first of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine from Airmen assigned to the 673d Healthcare Operation Squadron at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Jan. 8, 2021. The 3rd Wing’s leadership received the vaccine as part of the effort to slow the COVID-19 pandemic. Upon receiving the initial shipment of the vaccine, JBER began inoculating personnel following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's prioritization guidelines. The vaccine is part of Operation Warp Speed, a national initiative to accelerate the development, production and distribution of safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines, therapeutics and diagnostics.
