NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (Oct. 4, 2020) Lt. Chandler Irwin (left), a chaplain assigned to the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73), blesses Religious Program Specialist 2nd Class Jenny Williams (middle), assigned to the command religious ministries department aboard George Washington, and Max Williams’ (right), William’s son, husky max during a blessing of the animals ceremony. George Washington is undergoing refueling complex overhaul (RCOH) at Newport News Shipbuilding. RCOH is a multi-year project performed only once during a carrier’s 50-year service life that includes refueling the ship’s two nuclear reactors, as well as significant repairs, upgrades, and modernization.
