201216-N-AW702-002 MAYPORT, Fla. (December 16, 2020) Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. 4th Fleet, Rear Adm. Don Gabrielson salutes Peruvian navy officers assigned to the Peruvian submarine, BAP Pisagua (SS-33), upon their arrival to Naval Station Mayport, Dec. 16, 2020. The visit marks the beginning of Diesel-Electric Submarine Initiative (DESI) operations for 2020-2021. DESI training evolutions allows partner navies to work together to train and test undersea warfare capabilities through engagement tactics, weapon system tests and close encounter operations enhancing interoperability of assets between the U.S. and South American navies.
