US Navy divers search for the remains of five unaccounted for service members from 1942

Chief Warrant Officer Timothy O'neal, assigned to Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit (MDSU) 2, speaks with Canadian media during an underwater recovery operation in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. A 50-person recovery team from the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC), MDSU 2, and civilian mariners from the USNS Grapple (T-ARS 53), are conducting underwater excavations searching for five Americans that were lost when their PBY-5A aircraft crashed in November 1942. JPAC conducts global search, recovery and laboratory operations to identify unaccounted-for Americans from past conflicts in order to support the Department of Defense's personnel accounting efforts.
