Divers, assigned to Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit 2, and the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command, are lowered into the water to conduct a recovery dive in the Gulf of the St. Lawrence. A 50-person recovery team from JPAC, MDSU 2, and civilian mariners from the USNS Grapple (T-ARS 53), are conducting underwater excavations searching for five Americans that were lost when their PBY-5A aircraft crashed in November 1942. JPAC conducts global search, recovery and laboratory operations to identify unaccounted-for Americans from past conflicts in order to support the Department of Defense's personnel accounting efforts.
