U.S. Army Sgt. Warren D. Rasmussen, of the California Army National Guard's 251st Coast Artillery Regiment (Anti-Aircraft), is believed to be one of the first three American service members killed during the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor. The 19-year-old Compton, California, native was deployed to Hawaii, but off-duty Dec. 7. He was on a sight-seeing flight along the coast in a civilian aircraft with two other Soldiers when the trio were shot down by oncoming Japanese fighter planes. (Archive photo)
