Ground burst simulator explosive devices used to simulate ground attacks are set off during an exercise Nov. 19, 2020, at Travis Air Force Base, California. The flash powder inside each device is ignited by a pyrotechnic delay initiating an explosion. These explosions are used to familiarize Airmen with sounds during exercises they would likely encounter in a hostile environment. Airmen at Travis AFB participated in a readiness exercise to ensure they can operate in contested environments. (U.S. Air Force photo by Heide Couch)
