YOKOSUKA, Japan (Nov. 19, 2020) – Barbara Torres, left, present the 2019 USFJ Spill Response Coordination Awards to Boatswain’s Mate 2nd Class Christie Welter, Boatswain’s Mate 2nd Class Quintin Henderson-Peoples, Boatswain’s Mate 1st Class James Tinnelly and Lt.j.g. Charles Thaxter. Welter, Henderson-Peoples, and Tinnelly are part of Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka’s Port Operations’ Department’s spill response team. Thaxter has been the on call Public Works duty officer for approximately 80 percent of the calls made to report potential mishaps. For 75 years, CFAY has provided, maintained, and operated base facilities and services in support of the U.S. 7th Fleet’s forward-deployed naval forces, tenant commands, and thousands of military civilian personnel and their families.
