A groundbreaking ceremony for Camp Walker's new Access Control Point was held this morning at the construction area behind the fire department and self help store on post.

Part of a larger land partnership plan — which included relocating Helipad 805 to it's new location near the post office and commissary parking lot, and the return of 16 acres of Camp Walker land to the Republic of Korea — the initiative will help Daegu City and the District of Nam-gu immensely.

In return, the city of Daegu has funded both of Area IV's new helicopter landing pads at Camps Walker and Carroll and the new ACP being built now, as well as the new wall that extends from Gate 4 to the commissary.

In the 16 acres of land being returned to Korea, a new road network will be constructed to improve traffic efficiency, and a new Daegu City Library will be built. Construction on the new ACP, also known as an access gate, will be synchronized with the road network and library construction. It's estimated that all the work will be completed by May 2022.

In attendance at the event was USAG Daegu Commander Col. Edward Ballanco, 19th ESC Deputy Commander Col. Christopher Brookie, Mayor Cho Jae-Gu, Congressman Kwak Sang-Do and many other local community leaders, partners and friends of USAG Daegu and Area IV.
