Sara Schuster, large mammal biologist with Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands, held a goldenrod species (Solidago spp.) at the Thirsty Canyon, Nevada, Nov. 15, 2020. Desert bighorn sheep also eat tall grass called galleta grass (Pleuraphis jamesii) and short grass called Indian ricegrass (Oryzopsis hymenoides), commonly found on the Nevada Test and Training Range. Other important forage include the spring/summer wildflowers, such as globemallow (Sphaeralcea spp) and desert marigold (Baileya multiradiata). (U.S. Air Force photo by 2nd Lt. Nicolle E. Mathison)
