A boom is being deployed out of Landing Craft Utility 1656 during part of a humanitarian aid and disaster relief exercise. This particular boom is used as a blockade to stop oil from reaching the shore. Coalition forces are conducting the exercise Nov. 1-7 to enhance capabilities in responding to a regional nation's request for assistance during a time of a crisis. Exercises between the coalition and its regional partners provide an excellent opportunity for the coalition to demonstrate its commitment to security and stability in the region.
