Col. Thomas Matelski, commander of U.S. Army Garrison Japan, pulls out a bamboo tree that he cut at Camp Zama, Japan, Nov. 20, while his wife Amy stands to the right. The Matelskis helped 16 members of the Sagamihara Giant Kite Preservation Association, Katsusaka Area, cut bamboo on Camp Zama so the association can make frames for traditional giant kites.
