201009-M-UV498-2054 PACIFIC OCEAN (Oct. 9, 2020) – U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Luke Carney, a mortarman with Charlie Company, Battalion Landing Team 1/4, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, builds a terrain model aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8). A terrain model identifies landmarks and structures on a map. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and the 15th MEU are currently conducting routine operations in the eastern Pacific Ocean.
