Lance Cpl. Juan Carpanzano, a combat photographer with 3d Marine Division, receives instruction from Marines with 3d Reconnaissance Battalion on how to shoot a M110 M40A6 during Service Level Training Exercise (SLTE) 1-21 aboard Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, Calif. Sept. 28, 2020. This is an exercise designed to provide realistic and challenging training at every level of the Marine Corps to better prepare Marines to operate against future threats. Due to high heat index and inevitable moisture build up during outdoor activity, the efficacy of the masks as a barrier are greatly reduced. Thus, Marines are not required to wear masks during these training events.
