After 29 years of military service, 23 with the California Army National Guard, U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Steven J. Rodriguez retired Sept. 27, 2020 and now plans to spend more time with his wife, Marie, two children and two Maltipoo dogs, Koa and Kalea. Rodriguez’s last stint was senior enlisted advisor in Cal Guard’s 340th Brigade Support Battalion, 115th Regional Support Group. He reached his mandatory retirement age and departs the military with three combat deployments in his established resume. “Camaraderie,” said Rodriguez, answering what has kept him this long in the military. “I didn’t plan on joining the military at first. I’m not sure what I would have done, that’s why I joined the U.S. Army.” (U.S. Army National Guard photo by Staff Sgt. Eddie Siguenza)
