Memphis District Commander Col. Zach Miller, USACE’s Hurricane #Laura response commander, stops to thank some of the FEMA staff at the responders’ camp in Lake Charles, La., today, Sept. 14. The Corps’ current level of response to the devastating category 4 hurricane was greatly improved by FEMA's establishment of the forward operating facility, allowing the Corps to consolidate response operations, command and control and housing in the response area. Prior to the establishment of the facility, Corps many responders traveled 2-3 hours one-way to fulfill mission requirements. Photo by George Stringham
