    U.S. Marine Cpl. Michael Russman, an infantryman attached to Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment and native of McConnellesburg, Pa., coaches an Afghan Local Police academy recruit during a marksmanship class at the small arms firing range here, Nov. 25, 2011. The academy, funded by the Afghanistan Ministry of the Interior, trains local men from various “watons,” or villages, to become police officers. Marines and sailors of 1st Bn., 9th Marines conducted counterinsurgency operations under the leadership of Regimental Combat Team 5, during their seven-month deployment in Nawa district.
