Warm Springs Police Department Sgt. Scott Lane, Chief of Police Bill Elliott, Officer Jordan Manns and Oregon Army National Guard Capt. Kyle Roe, Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 1st Squadron, 82nd Cavalry Regiment, meet to discuss their coordinated effort to keep the local community and neighborhoods safe, Warm Springs, Ore., Sept. 17, 2020. The Lionshead Fire, located 14-miles west of Warm Springs, could potentially lead to an evacuation, leaving homes vulnerable. Roe is the Officer in Charge of the 82nd Cavalry Soldiers who are stationed at four traffic control points (TCP) along U.S. Highway 26, and are reassuring local citizens and monitoring anyone who enters and exits the neighborhoods. This partnership between the Warm Springs Police Department and the Oregon National Guard was vital in freeing up officers to perform more critical law enforcement duties in the area. Approximately 1000 Oregon National Guard Citizen-Soldiers and Citizen-Airmen are supporting overall firefighting efforts with both aviation and ground crews, in addition to supporting county liaison teams, and Oregon State Police with TCPs and fatality search and rescue operations.
