PHILIPPINE SEA (Sep. 3, 2020) Col. Michael Nakonieczny, commanding officer of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), listens as Gunnery Sgt. David Kim, a criminal investigator with 3d Law Enforcement (LE) Detachment, 31st MEU, explains how to employ different devices aboard amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6). The devices are used to identify substances such as explosives or drugs. America, flagship of America Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), 31st MEU team, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
