PHILIPPINE SEA (Sep. 3, 2020) Col. Michael Nakonieczny, commanding officer of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), observes as Sgt. Luis Leoni, a criminal investigator with 3d Law Enforcement (LE) Detachment, 31st MEU, demonstrates a technique for developing latent fingerprints aboard amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6). The technique Leoni demonstrated developed a fingerprint using wet powder and the adhesive side of duct tape. America, flagship of America Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), 31st MEU team, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. The America ARG, 31st MEU team remains the premier crisis response force in the region despite the unique challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl.
