Lt. Col. David Esteban Diaz Janampa (left), partner nation liaison officer, U.S. Army South, presented remarks to members of the U.S. Army South command team to commemorate the 199th anniversary of Ejército del Perú, or Army of Peru, Aug. 18 at the Army South Main Conference Room. The Peruvian Army was officially established on Aug. 18, 1821 when the government of General José de San Martín established the Legión Peruana de la Guardia (Peruvian Guard Legion). Six years later, in 1827, the U.S. established diplomatic relations with Peru, and the U.S. and Peru’s strategic partnership continues today to enhance security and prosperity across the region.
