U.S. Marine Cpl. Allen Munton with Air Combat Element, Marine Rotational Force – Darwin, takes part in training at Nackeroo Airfield, Bradshaw Field Training Area, Northern Territory, Australia, Aug. 10, 2020. Munton is a native of Waterford, Conn.
“There’s a lot less people in our unit now. When I first got here there were upper hundreds of people, and now there’s 140 in the squadron total. It’s a small community of people. Everybody knows everybody by name. When someone checks in, everybody knows who’s checking in. Whenever you go around the squadron, you don’t have to introduce yourself. You’ve already got a relationship with that person, and you know how to talk to them. It makes it easier and smoother for us. In a normal unit, with thousands of people, you meet new people every day. It’s not like that here.”
During the extended training, MRF-D’s ACE made history by launching an RQ-21A Blackjack into flight, from Australian soil, for the first time ever. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Harrison Rakhshani)
