    U.S. Soldiers join Polish for 1956 Poznan Uprising commemoration

    Brig. Gen. Brett Silvia, 1st Cavalry Division Forward commander, and Sgt. Major James Card, 1st Cavalry Division Forward senior enlisted adviser, along with other service members of the U.S. currently in Poland, attend a ceremony commemorating the 1956 uprising in Poznan on June 28, 2020. The Poznan Uprising was a protest of industrial workers that caused a crisis among the Polish communist leadership as well as in the Soviet bloc in June 1956. The uprising culminated when 100,000 people gathered outside of the Minister of Public Security in Poznan, with 400 tanks and 10,000 Soldiers from the Polish People's Army being used to suppress the protests, resulting in 60-100 civilians killed and several hundred wounded.
