    31st Marine Expeditionary Unit

Navy Chief Petty Officer Gabriela Nguyen stands in front of the Marine Expeditionary Unit building during the 122nd birthday of the Hospital Corps on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, June 17, 2020. The Hospital Corpsman birthday was established in 1898; it is a long standing tradition that celebrates corpsmen and their enduring relationship with Marines throughout history. Gabriela said, "Navy corpsmen have served across all platforms to support the Navy and the Marine Corps. We are the only enlisted corps, so we are here to recognize that and continue the tradition. This helps the corpsmen learn their heritage and carry that pride. As their chief, I'm here to be a keeper of tradition; we are here to pass on the torch to show where we have come from, where we are going, and how far we've come." The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
