Navy Hospitalman Micah Felkins stands in front of the Marine Expeditionary Unit building during the 122nd birthday of the Hospital Corps on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, June 17, 2020. The Hospital Corpsman birthday was established in 1898; it is a long standing tradition that celebrates corpsmen and their enduring relationship with Marines throughout history. Micah said, "It's important that this birthday is celebrated because the hospital corpsman is the most highly decorated rating in the Navy. It has a long and proud heritage, not only in sea service but also in shore service with the Marines. They have been the protectors of lives at sea and on land for over 122 years. The best part of my job is the fact that I get to take care of Marines, especially because they are a premier frontline fighting force. They're a very decorated branch and for me to take their care into my hands is a big responsibility and privilege." The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
