MILWAUKEE – Marquette University Naval ROTC (NROTC) Midshipman 1st Class Steven Peterson, 22, from Whitehall, Michigan, recites the Oath of Office virtually via computer from his apartment in Milwaukee as he commissions as an Ensign in the U. S. Navy. The oath was given by Capt. Matthew R. Vandersluis, commanding officer of the unit, via computer from the NROTC offices on campus. More than 1,400 NROTC midshipmen, officer candidates and Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program (MECEP) Marines have virtually commissioned or are commissioning to U. S. Navy Ensigns and U.
