Soldiers and Airmen with the Minnesota National Guard partner with the Minnesota Department of Health to conduct COVID-19 testing at long-term care facilities across the state May 15, 2020. The teams are a part of Gov. Tim Walz’s plan to increase testing.
"The Minnesota National Guard has been assisting state agencies with logistics and planning efforts up to this point," said Minnesota’s Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Jon Jensen. "With these new missions our efforts shift to more directly assist those on the frontlines of the COVID-19 fight."
This testing of staff and residents is designed to reduce the virus’ spread by identifying those that are infected so they can be isolated, decreasing the risk of spread in facilities of greatest concern. The Minnesota Guardsmen and women are trained military medical professionals, many of whom also have civilian healthcare careers.
