Officials for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Alaska District observed an ice jam on the Chena River while monitoring changing river levels on April 23 near North Pole. During heightened river levels, the team monitors river levels hourly to be prepared to activate the dam and regulate stream flow to protect communities in the Fairbanks North Star Borough from flooding.
