The California Army National Guard’s Spc. Josue Gallegos and Sgt. Michael Ortiz, members of Alpha Company, 223rd Military Intelligence Battalion, 115th Regional Support Group, display the face masks Spc. Kimberly Ortiz provided for their unit May 5 at the Solano Food Bank in Fairfield, California. In April the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended using cloth face coverings to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Ortiz’s unit didn’t obtain masks immediately, so she initiated her mother, Los Angeles resident Paulina Hernandez, a longtime seamstress, to help.
