National Nurses Week is celebrated May 6 to May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale (1820-1910), the founder of modern nursing. The Navy Nurse Corps was created May 13, 1908, when President Theodore Roosevelt signed the Naval Appropriations Bill. Today, there more than 4,000 active and reserve nurses in the Navy filling roles in 17 different specialties. Pictured left to right are: U.S Air Force Capt.
