Donovan Guthrie, a pneudraulics system mechanic at Fleet Readiness Center East, tests the functionality of an F-18 cabin safety valve by using the test stand to bring it up to operational altitude. After Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center at Tinker Air Force Base experienced workforce shortages due to COVID-19, FRCE stepped in to take on the repair, checking and testing of the component several months earlier than planned. The valve is an integral part of the aircraft’s environmental control system, and acts as a backup to maintain proper cabin air pressure above 23,000 feet in the case where the cabin air pressure regulator fails to function.
