The usage of the phrase ‘The Oklahoma Standard’ happened almost immediately after the attack on the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building April 19, 1995. People began donating food, water and supplies to survivors and first responders; clergy and mental health providers offered comfort. In the weeks that followed the attack, children were asked to donate 168 pennies at their schools for each life lost in the attack, and teddy bears were given to each family affected, for example. The Oklahoma Standard of service, honor and kindness lives on even today in the hearts of everyone touched by the tragedy. (U.S. Air Force photo/Kelly White)
