Pvt. Brandon Banks, a Michigan National Guard member from the 1434th Engineering Company, lives in Ypsilanti, Mich. He had only been to one drill before being activated to assist combating COVID-19.
“When we were in AIT [Advanced Individual Training], we didn’t hear anything about the coronavirus. As soon as I got back it hit the U.S., and then Michigan and especially Detroit, I was like ‘Oh, snap. I wasn’t expecting this at all.’ I had been to only one drill, and then I get activated.“
“Most people weren’t expecting me to go into the Army. But It makes me feel really good being able to give back to the community. We’re here to help people who do have symptoms of the coronavirus. That’s what we’ve been down here doing every day: constantly working to help set up this medical station, for the people.”
