A team from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District conduct site assessments of potential alternate care facilities April 6 in Apache County, Arizona, in response to COVID-19.

The site assessment is one of several planned in support of a FEMA mission assigned to the Corps’ Headquarters. The Corps is assisting Navajo Nation, the state and FEMA’s efforts with initial site assessments for alternate care facilities.

During emergencies, the Corps is the federal government's lead public works and engineering support agency. The organization is working with the White House, DOD and other federal, state and local partners in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

As part of the unified national response to emergencies, the Corps deploys hundreds of people to provide technical engineering expertise and promote capacity development at home and abroad.
