Army Maj. Sean Shirley, assigned to the 9th Field Hospital, holds a meeting with medical staff at the Javits New York Medical Station (JYNMS). Soldiers, along with FEMA personnel and other federal, state and local agencies began operating a federal medical station out of the JNYMS March 30 to care for non-COVID-19 patients in an effort to relieve the burden on local hospitals, allowing them to focus on coronavirus patients. U.S. Northern Command, through U.S. Army North, is providing military support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency to help communities in need.
