An Iowa State University ROTC cadet asks U.S. Navy Adm. Charles Richard, commander of U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), a question during the 2020 Deterrence and Assurance Academic Alliance Conference in Ames, Iowa, March 12, 2020. Over 100 participants attended the two-day event, themed Deterrence: Theory to Application, A Cyclone of Challenges. The event featured student panel presentations, tours and demonstrations, a national security job fair, and a four-hour USSTRATCOM-led tabletop exercise, which simulated a strategic level national security crisis to test their analytic expertise.
