FORT BENNING, Ga. – Fort Benning leaders make final preparations moments before the start of an online community town hall meeting held March 17 to outline a range of precautionary measures being taken here against spread of the COVID-19 virus. The forum was live-streamed on Facebook and included a section that gave community members a chance to post online questions for the panel. It featured Fort Benning’s top leader, Maj. Gen. Gary M. Brito (right), commanding general of the U.S. Army Maneuver Center of Excellence and Fort Benning, Col. Matthew Scalia (center), commander, U.S. Army Garrison Fort Benning, and Col. Melissa J. Hoffman, commander of Fort Benning’s Martin Army Community Hospital. Brito called for a unified “we” mindset by which individuals base their actions on what will be best for the overall community. No cases of COVID-19 have been identified at Fort Benning but Brito said precautionary measures, including physical distancing and curtailing various activities, were necessary.
