An Officer Development School (ODS) class 20030 student swims during the third-class swimmer test in the Lt. Michael P. Murphy Combat Training Pool at Officer Training Command Newport (OTCN), Rhode Island, March 5. The test consists of jumping from a 10-foot tower into the pool to simulate abandoning ship, five minutes of floating in the prone position, coverall inflation, and a 50-yard swim. ODS provides Staff Corps Officers and several Restricted Line designators with training necessary to prepare them to function in their role as newly commissioned Naval Officers.
