200302-N-WI365-1011 EAST CHINA SEA (March 02, 2020) – Boatswain’s Mate Seaman Josiah Simmons, from Atchison, Kansas, signals “Heave in” from the weatherdeck of the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS McCampbell (DDG 85) during a fueling-at-sea (FAS) with the Lewis and Clark-class dry cargo and ammunition ship USNS Richard E. Byrd (T-AKE 4), part of the annual U.S.-Japan Bilateral Advanced Warfighting Training exercise. Bilateral Advanced Warfighting Training. BAWT improves interoperability between the U.S. and Japanese forces. This exercise enhances the ability of the U.S. Navy and JMSDF to work together to confront any contingency.
