Robert R. Harrison meets one of the internees rescued by the 1st Cavalry Division, while attending the Bay Area Civilian Prisoners of War reunion in Sacramento, Calif.
On January 30, 1945, Gen. MacArthur ordered the 1st Cavalry Division into Manila, in order to liberate internee camps in Santo Tomas where the Japanese held a large number of civilian prisoners. These reunions are held annually by a group of Santo Tomas survivors.
