For his bravery and heroism during the Battle of Manila and other campaigns, Harrison was awarded the Bronze star, the Combat Infantry Badge and was recommended for a battlefield commission. Harrison left the service soon after his return to the States in late 1945, and met and married Louise, his wife of 68 years.
