PHILIPPINE SEA, (Feb. 11, 2020) Capt. Kenichi Nakashima, commanding officer of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade, presents a gift to U.S. Navy Cmdr. Christopher Causee, commanding officer of the Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship USS Germantown (LSD 42), during a ceremony aboard the Germantown. The ceremony celebrated the culmination of a successful two weeks of training between Marines and Sailors of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) and JGSDF service members. Germantown, part of the America Expeditionary Strike Group, 31st MEU team, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
