U.S. sailors assigned to the guided missile frigate USS Underwood (FFG 36) salute the Chilean Navy tall ship Esmeralda (BE 43) while approaching Iquique, Chile, in the Pacific Ocean June 16, 2012. Underwood was deployed to Central and South America and the Caribbean in support of Southern Seas 2012, a U.S. Southern Command-directed operation designed to strengthen relationships with regional partner nations and improve operational readiness for all assigned units.
