U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Patrick Powers, assistant weapons officer aboard the national security cutter USCGC Waesche (WMSL 751), demonstrates how to remove a pistol from an opposing force to members of Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) during a visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS) training exercise. This event is part of Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) 2012 Malaysia. CARAT is a series of bilateral military exercises between the U.S. Navy and the armed forces of Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. Timor Leste joins the exercise for the first time in 2012.
