U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Cove Day poses for a photo at a Combat Aircraft Loading Area during exercise Northern Viper on Yausubetsu Training Area, Hokkaido, Japan, Jan. 28, 2020. Personnel currently assigned to the Aviation Combat Element for exercise Northern Viper train in austere environments to prepare units for all weather conditions. Northern Viper is a regularly scheduled training exercise that is designed to enhance the interoperability of the U.S. and Japan Alliance by allowing Marine Air-Ground Task Forces from III Marine Expeditionary Force to maintain their lethality and proficiency in MAGTF Combined Arms Operations in cold weather environments. Day, a native of Columbus, Ohio, is an aviation ordnance technician with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 369 “Gunfighters”, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, currently attached to 1st Marine Aircraft Wing as part of a unit deployment program.
